    GO home and stand in front of a mirror and ask yourself if your 3 year degree and a masters bought for 4k will get you a greencard in eb2.

    That is what exactly I am trying to find. Not in front of a mirror. But searching in forums where I might get correct answer.

    It is not about 4K Masters or 14K Masters.

    I am looking for information on what credentials does USCIS look for when evaluating Masters degree. Is it the Accredition of the University, reputation of the University, Length of the degree.

    I just need a well thought-out answer.

    I can get Masters from well reputed south african university for well below 4K. OR there are diploma mills who sells masters for 8K which are of no worth at all.

    Why r u guys looking at the cost of the degree. Give a thought about why USCIS might deny I-140 when one applies with an US Masters Degree.

    If USCIS does not accept Masters Degree from Aspen which is (Nationally Accredited by DETC). then USCIS might not accept Masters Degree from any university which are acrredited by DETC..

    Let me know if I am thinking anything wrong..

    not personal, addressing many issues.

    1. if your company pays for everything, why such reluctance to put up a few more dollars for your own cause? think of those that pay for everything themselves and still contribute.

    2. each contribution to paypal costs, they take a chunk off it. making small 10 buck contribution is really not the intelligent way to go.

    3. there used to be a 20/mnth recurring contribution. now it does no exist. what do you want? should we throw out the original 20 buck guys? of course they can continue doing it. i can't imagine why it would put you off? btw we did not really lose any money by going to a minimum of 50- you know why? those who were serious still contributed. others who were whining at that time (why is there not a 10/mnth option) were in many (though not all) cases not going to contribute anyway. this is just fyi.

    4. what is 50 bucks a month? step back and think sometime. a family meal/movie? do you indulge yourself occasionally worth 50 bucks?
    i think in many cases the answer is yes. the money we need for lobbying ie very large....it's hard to make it form 20 bucks at a time when barely 5% of the membership contributes.
    you have the choice hereof donating 100 now and considering it as two 50 buck donations, so your next one will be delayed. there are various ways of looking at this.


    there are various ways to contribute, money is just one of them- although very important. if you have not done this, join a state chapter and start meeting lawmakers in your area. get friends to join iv. put up fliers and posters in local grocery stores/fairs and festivals etc. there are many good examples of these activities being done successfully. in the end it's going to matter is whether we put enough effort to push over the line- whether it's today or in 2 years.

    we all have a choice. please make a wise one.

    It's just bad luck to get that kind of CBP officer. It's upto you to ignore this or escalate it. In my opinion behaviour of CBP officer was wrong.
    If you want, You can write letter to Commisioner of CBP about the incidence, following is the address :

    As far as I know, if you filed for 485 and crossed 180 days after that with the same employer

    Chandu, this is what I want to get answer from IV or Attorneys who are helping IV or IV can get clarifications from USCIS. how many are with same employers. We have many who lost jobs in between changed employer using h1 or EAD. changed jobs with EAD (so not a problem becuase they have used EAD)

    problem is only for those who were on h1 and lost job, in between they are on bench for 1 or more than 1month.

    If you manage to find a job pretty quick, then you can go for h1b transfer and it should not be an issue, but if it is taking time, then you may have issues

But let's face reality for a moment - as several senior members routinely point out, inspite of our organization having several thousand "highly paid" members, the "donor" base is very limited. As Zen says in a truly Zen manner "we are where we are"...and we have to figure out where to go from here. Unquestionably, I am really thankful to our highly dedicated Core team for sacrificing their personal time and making all of the efforts that have led to substantial progress over the last few years for the immigration community. However,, that with a new government in place, we now have a truly unique window of opportunity to make some progress and the question before us is how do we maximize our potential to take advantage of this? The real beauty of my proposal is that we could leverage the enormous dedication of the core team and multiply it several fold, if we could build a strong donor base that provides us the funding required to engage effective lobbyists. Needless to say the more the funding, the stronger can be our lobbying.

    It is definitely not a good idea to broadcast confidential information on strategies/plans. However, what you are referring to is the merchanics of the process of sharing updates- there are several ways in which we could implement the update process so that information is only shared to a predefined "pool" and that "donors" are first vetted before being brought into the "pool", so to speak. The way IV has currently implemented this process, of course, is through the local chapters. However, their current process is subject to lack of consistency (depending very heavily on the availability of the local chapter coordinators) and more importantly, does not take advantage of the tool that really enables us to all come together i.e. the internet. It is a paradox that an organization founded on the net and is still subjecting itself to the constraints of "physical communication" via the local chapters. I thought they were taking a step in right direction with the creation of the "Donor Forum", however, for some reason, we still seem stuck in the previous mode of operation. We can find a middle ground here that would not compromise confidentiality or our goals - one alternative (certainly not the only one I am sure) is quite simply, email updates compiled by one person (for consistency and uniform direction) that go out a distribution group, where the "donors" on the distribution list, have been vetted by the local chapter coordinators. I know this takes work, but if the Core is looking for a person to pull together a Conference Call to compile this update and send it out, I would be glad to volunteer my services.



    Still I've some open issues. If you look at the poll, there isnt a single person who voted NO. We should expect to see a healthy mix of Yes,No and Dont Care. But the way the poll has been put and partly the wording, partly the current IV environment, people are sceptical of putting their real thoughts publicly. This excercise is futile if you have minimal 'NO's --- hope you are getting my point here. The only thing you might end up with is x number of YES and hope to translate the YES into more dollar value for IV and there will be some YES who are already contributing monetarily.


    You are correct dilbert_cal - not a single person has explicity voted "No". In reality though, everyone who has viewed this thread (1563 views when I last checked - even if you assume each person has checked this thread at least 10 times, that's about 156 individuals out of whom only about 35 have voted so far!) and not bothered to vote is essentially voting "No"! However, again as you point out, I am not really looking for the "No"s since these people have clearly decided they don't want to part with their money at this stage (not ascribing any reasons or motives here - just stating the facts). Instead, my focus is on coalescing a group around those who voted "Yes" since they, like me, agree that they would contribute more if they received more regular updates of what is going on. Our organization just needs a little more "organization" (pun, intended :p) to make it more effective! Again, just reality but that is also the usual natural evolution of most organizations that start out as pure grassroots organizations.

    I really do believe there are substantial number of folks out there who can be engaged more effectively in this process and I invite the Core Leadership team to put more thought in figuring out how to achieve this - I hope you take my suggestion constructively!

It can happen with ones mistake or without mistake (Car accident).. Some one get caught and some one don't... as example I knew many people who steal/use office supplies in the company they work...

    In most critical situations a person can file a lawsuit in federal court and ask court to 1) compel USCIS to process your EAD within 1-2 days and 2) enjoin DHS from going after the employer if person continues working with expired EAD. Part 2 is available only if employer wants to participate in a lawsuit. Otherwise, file it yourself, it requires the same amount of time as filing for EAD.

    I am nearing the expiration of current EAD for both myself and my wife. I am pursuing all other options actively and they are work in progress.

    You go to SSN office, fill out a form and submit it. Use the following link to locate a office.

    Remember one thing, until your wife gets SSN, she can't be paid (legally). So, don't wait till the pay period to apply.

    I don�t mean to insult your intelligence, but who ever came up with ideas to ask, celebrities, a noble laurite and other accomplished folks from the immigration community to send faxes does not have the slightest plan on how to make this succeed.

    If this is the kind of ideas the �lobbyists� QGA is giving us, may we need some fresh blood in helping us out. I completely agree �eb3retro� in working with AILA.org in helping us get our message across.     It is easy to criticize what others are doing. You can modulate what IV does simply by becoming more active and involved yourself.

    Also, I don't think QGA ever asked IV to get celebrity endorsements. That idea was from some other member like yourself.

    Despite all my attempts, nothing happened at NSC. The last resort, Local Congressman helped. The staff did an excellent job, resolved the issue in a matter of hours. Not only my EAD was approved right away, they also arranged a Letter indicating that my case was approved, so that I can present it to my HR.

    Before I called the congressman's office, I did have very little or no hope, as I went thru many things. This is a very happy ending.

    Is it a good idea to contact the Congressman even when 90 days are not over. My EAD expires on 18th September and 90 days will get over on 24th September. I have already put in the expedite request with Texas, but haven't heard since then, whether its approved or not. Please suggest what should I do?
