I know ROW country may not like this thread, but look at EB-3 India or China, put yourself in our shoes and than you may realize how unfair this country is. In this unprecedented financial turmoil, I feel there are very remote chances for CIR or any package which increase immigration etc would pass, I am taking this initiative to gather as many people I can and go to washington. Again this is not an IV effort. If you are with me , you can spare some time or few days in Washington, please PM me. our sole agenda is bring a 2 line bill to remove country quota...
Instead of asking for removing, perhaps asking for making it in ratio of country sizes might be more palatable. Note that Nepal has same numeric quota as China. I don't know how you can influence or initiate such changes, though.

I also work in a IT consulting position but still decided to go ahead and buy a home in St Louis back in September 2007. My 485/EAD/AP was filed in August 2007 and EAD approved a few weeks back. However despite my current situation, I believe buying a home was a wise decision considering the kind of lifestyle and security it provides for you and your family. I know a lot of my friends who decided to take the plunge and bought houses though they were working on H1 and have their GCs pending for a few years.
Taking a plunge now on EAD is like drowning yourself. prices have not yet come down and will come down by 15-20 % over 5 years. there is talk about recession , job losses and more foreclosures. if you dont need the space ...DONT BUY. most of us dont need more space unless we have 2-3 grown kids who need their own rooms. renting is not same as throwing away money as you get a place to live. how does buying a home give you security ..it is more of a hassle if you are on EAD or H-1 and you need mobility after a job is lost. my friend who has good worldly experience rightly said ..buying a house now is like worrying about one more thing in life.

Collecting contributions and spending them on political influence activities without making sure that all legal requirements are fulfilled is a dangerous endeavour. I hope you have everything set up the right way so you don't run afoul of the law (fixing retrogression is not going to do you any good if you are fighting a federal wire-fraud indictment at the time of your adjustment interview).

Lets take a step back and look at the income of the org till now. As we have displayed on the website, we have collected USD30,000.
Consider that there are 5 board of directors of this org. These guys are all well settled in their jobs and earn a decent living.....but hey here is $6K for each of them now :). Of course they will do a 'wire fraud' for this USD 6k after all this 6K will buy them a new house and a mercedes...right? Who cares about felony, 6K can change anyones life....wouldn't you hadron be willing to spend a year in prison for 6k? Sounds tempting right? Oh wait, but the amount is not really 6K since we have hired QGA. Dang, there goes the dream of owning a beach house with a mercedes!
To think of something like this is not just ludicrous, its downright insulting....instead of encouraging folks who have taken upon themselves to do something about it, you are hell bent on spreading malice and sowing seeds of doubt in everyone's mind! We very well know what we are doing and we are doing so in a 100% legal manner.
Forget about us, do you think a firm as reputed as QGA would want to associate themselves with an org like us if we were not legit? Think again! Some of the folks who had gone to DC (on personal expenses, mind you)to have a preliminary discussion with QGA actually met Mr. Jack Quinn who used to be a legal counsel to Bill Clinton...do you think he has time to meet crooks who don't know a word about law and are doing something illegal? I keep on repeating myself, but if you go to the website, you will see Mr. Rajeev Khanna's email endorsing us. We actually met him in DC too. He has put a link to our website. Same with Attorney Matthew Oh. And how about Dr. Richard Florida? What are the odds of him endorsing an organization which is 100% illegal and committing a wire fraud? The answer is very obvious
Also, if you want to collect significant contributions, you have to instill some trust into the donors that their money will be used for the intended cause and can't be siphoned off by a member of the organization.

I guess most of the folks here are busy preparing to apply for 485. I have different problem here.
My employer's attorney is charging me outrageous fees of around $5000 to
apply for 485, AP and EAD for me and my spouse. This excludes USCIS fees. I work on hourly basis, so I should be taking care of immigration fees. My employer is not allowing me to file through another law firm.
Do I have any other options. How much do they charge usually.
Get a approval notice for I-140 and file I-485 urself, if I-140 not approved then get the receipt number and file urself

Starting July 16th, 2007, labor certification has a 60 day validity period. Meaning, a I-140 petition needs to be filed within 60 days from labor approval date....If immigrant visa numbers are unavailable (dates retrogressed), you wont be able to file your I-140/I-485 concurrently but you can file your I-140 petition irrespective of your priority date as long as you have a labor approved. You dont have to apply for your labor again and again....Its just that, once you get your I-140 approved, you will have to wait for dates to become current to file I-485...

So after more than a month of sleepless nights, thanks to Immigration Voice looks like my I 485 application is back on track.
A recap of my situation:
Last month I got an email from USCIS-CRIS stating that my I 485 was withdrawn. After being in this country for close to 10 years and in the immigration queue for more than 7 years why would I withdraw the application ??? I did not withdraw my application !!!
It took me more than a month to find out the reason behind the withdrawal..trust me it was not easy..and guess what ....It was my Attorney who had withdrawn the application in Error. Now what ... I call USCIS multiple times.. talk to many different IO's .. some of them patient and try to help.. some extremely rude.. but all of them had only one thing to say... they cannot help!!..... I get an Info Pass... no help there either.. I set up an emergency meeting with my attorney (one of the large Immigration Law Firms) .. nothing...they accept their mistake tell me that they will do all they can .. but no assurance that they will reinstate the case .. limited forward movement.... things look gloomy and bleak..no one can help me.
Then I called Immigration Voice on the number that is listed on the site and left a voice mail. Promptly got a call back I spoke to a Core member who understood the gravity and urgency of the situation and swiflty moved forward and got in touch with their contacts in the government. The Core member also put me in a conference call with the person who was going to look into my case, I was so relieved that I could explain the situation first hand.
I got a call today and I was told that after evaluating my case my file has been reopened and they have mailed an offical notice regarding the same and I should get it in a few days. *Fingers crossed until I get this notice in hand ;)*
The IV core was extremely sensitive to my situation and were very responsive and extremly helpful. I cant thank Immigration Voice enough for helping me resolve this issue in a quick manner.
I have registered to be a recurring contributing member and I intend to be an active member of this group.
My lessons from this crazy experience are:
- Never trust your attorney, always ask for a copy of any letter/document they send to USCIS on your behalf
- There is no organization besides IV out there that is looking out for the interests of the Immigrant Community.
- We need to strengthen IV in all ways we can, we need to be active.
- And as so many members have already said "We are IV." If we want things to be better "WE" need to do something about it.
I urge members who are still contemplating becoming active members to evaluate their options and to become active and contributing members of IV.

Guys,
I had INFOPASS appointment today. We reached 15 minutes before scheduled time. 8101 N Stemmns Fwy - Building does not have visible number "8101" but large "Department of Homeland Security" board is easily visible. At the entrance we showed our infopass appointment letter and Guard told us to stand in a queue behind racks. I saw 2 different queues nearer to Window so curiously I asked the fellow who was right ahead of me and he told me that the queue where we stand is meant for people who have not taken appointment and other queue right across the window is meant for people who have taken an appointment. There are no sign boards for these 2 different queues. Guard misguided us so all in all we wasted 5 to 7 minutes I came out from that queue and stand in the right queue again. At the window I was asked for Driving license and purpose of the appointment. I showed driving license and told we filed AP in July, 1* but have not received it. He demanded I-131 receipts and I represented them. Then he gave us tag numbers for all family members including myself. Then we moved towards the main entrance of the bulding. Guard instructed us to remove wallet,pen, anything we had in our pockets, purse,belt etc (Cell phones are not allowed inside the building) and put in one bucket which was scanned through the machine like available on airports. We had to walk through metal detector and then took possesion of our belongings and then waited in the waiting room for approximately 15 minutes. As our tag number appears on the electronic board with assigned counter number, we went to the counter. Lady officer greeted us and asked the purpose of the appointment and again I represented infopass appointment letter and I-131 receipts and told her that I have not received our advanced parole yet although we filed on July 1*. She dived into her computer and said your all Advanced parole are already approved on 10/1*/07 (Which was the date of first (And only one) LUD on our APs) and already mailed to you so she can not issue either "Original" or "duplicate" Advanced parole. According to her I should be receiving them any day now. She herself wanted me to give me the info about EAD status without myself asking so I told her that we already received our EADs and then she asked me, do I have any question for her and I said yes, what would be our name check status and she again digged into computer.According to her my Name check is still pending and I should inquire again after 4 months by taking another infopass appointment. Upon my further digging she told me that if everything is "generally clean" then 4 months is a standard period to get name check clear so she suggested me "inquire after 4 months". According to her my family has already cleared name check.

We reached 15 minutes before scheduled time. 8101 N Stemmns Fwy - Building does not have visible number "8101" but large "Department of Homeland Security" board is easily visible. At the entrance we showed our infopass appointment letter and Guard told us to stand in a queue behind racks. I saw 2 different queues nearer to Window so curiously I asked the fellow who was right ahead of me and he told me that the queue where we stand is meant for people who have not taken appointment and other queue right across the window is meant for people who have taken an appointment. There are no sign boards for these 2 different queues. Guard misguided us so all in all we wasted 5 to 7 minutes I came out from that queue and stand in the right queue again. At the window I was asked for Driving license and purpose of the appointment. I showed driving license and told we filed AP in July, 1* but have not received it. He demanded I-131 receipts and I represented them. Then he gave us tag numbers for all family members including myself. Then we moved towards the main entrance of the bulding. Guard instructed us to remove wallet,pen, anything we had in our pockets, purse,belt etc (Cell phones are not allowed inside the building) and put in one bucket which was scanned through the machine like available on airports. We had to walk through metal detector and then took possesion of our belongings and then waited in the waiting room for approximately 15 minutes. As our tag number appears on the electronic board with assigned counter number, we went to the counter. Lady officer greeted us and asked the purpose of the appointment and again I represented infopass appointment letter and I-131 receipts and told her that I have not received our advanced parole yet although we filed on July 1*. She dived into her computer and said your all Advanced parole are already approved on 10/1*/07 (Which was the date of first (And only one) LUD on our APs) and already mailed to you so she can not issue either "Original" or "duplicate" Advanced parole. According to her I should be receiving them any day now. She herself wanted me to give me the info about EAD status without myself asking so I told her that we already received our EADs and then she asked me, do I have any question for her and I said yes, what would be our name check status and she again digged into computer.According to her my Name check is still pending and I should inquire again after 4 months by taking another infopass appointment. Upon my further digging she told me that if everything is "generally clean" then 4 months is a standard period to get name check clear so she suggested me "inquire after 4 months". According to her my family has already cleared name check.

Loo can be used as platform to expose false media. I think there are lot of media groups which do not get enough funding from politicans and they will make news about our issue to get their ranking higher. And above all our friendly Fox, MSNBC. CNN will soon kick Loo
The idea is - use this guy and expose media that gives false news or that supresses real issues and force those types of media to bring our issue to limelight.
I have heard all media saying "We are immigrant nation", "we need skilled immigrants", "'We are not racist", etc.. then again the same media says "Immigrants are overstaying visas", "There is quota, we cannot do anything", same media has supressed microsoft's news about the Canada development center just because it involved immigration.
I am of a strong opinion that media is controlled by politicians, the reporters who said they will cover the flower campaign - chances are that their bosses may ask them not to or give them another assignment ???
