When I checked the status of my FOIA request in the USCIS website, it says that it was processed on Aug 30th. But I have not received anything in the mail. How long does it take from processed date to get info in the mail? Can anyone share their experience?

Apparently someone flagged me.. thats fine.. if people here cannot have a proper discussion without having to flag each other I dont see any point in calling ourselves "smart" "highly skilled".. looks like we need to grow up first. Personally, I dont care about these green/red blocks. I have the right to express my opinion whether someone likes it or not. If someone does not have "words" to argue back thats their problem..

You can check your senator's website. There will be some information on how to contact them. I think usually, they have someone in their front office who takes care of this request.
I requested to expedite and i got an email last week saying the request was accepted and will get result within 14days.. its been already 10 days and so far nothing happened.
Did the email you received specifically say that your request has been accepted and you will know the decision within 30 days?
They did not accept my request.
Here is the email from USCIS on July 18th.
At that time I agree with them, I really had 43 more days.
Later on when I faxed in Aug few times, nothing happened.
The status of this service request is:
Service records show we are currently processing your application and your application is waiting to be placed with an Officer. You should receive an update within the next 30-45 days. This is the same time it would take to have it expedited, therefore it is not necessary to request expedite handling. Please be sure you are registered with the post office to receive mail at your current address. Contact us at the number listed below if you do not receive your document with in 30 days from delivery.

What do you think about this? Is this something related to this discussion?
I pity your sense of judgment to relate such a tragic event with blood sucking employers and employees (who are over their parasitic dependence on the afore mentioned employer).

I wasn't moral policing, I was just laying out the legal stand that anybody can have under these circumstances. I am sure that the so called "Desi shop owner" is not so dumb to so flagrantly violate the law when his employee is going by the book, unless the employee is seriously gullible.
I agree it is illegal for employer to charge for H1B, and of course the employer is in violation of the law, but one needs to ascertain that the employee is not a willful accessory to that violation.
sc3, your argument is totally wrong. The employer has violated the H1B rules and most of the employees who come from India for the first time may not know that its illegal to foot the charge for H1b.
Its like telling a woman not to complain to the authorities about the abusive husband, if the husband beats her up, stating that she know it was wrong and so she is party to the wrong doing. Common man!!!
If you are stuck and are exploited, there are protections in Law that would not come after you. There are immunities that apply.
H1B guy, the best course of action for you, in my opinion:
1) consult an attorney.
2) gather as much evidence as possible related to the charging for H1B.
3) find another project.
4) Try to record the conversation between you and your employer. Most state allow to one party consent except California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Washington.
You don't have to be afraid of a company that is doing business unethically.
Good Luck!!!

He got the nomination after 2 weeks in the office (Feb, 2009 last date for the entry). It is too early for him. We never know how he perform for next 3 years. Award must give after seeing the real work. Not by the speech by the politicians.

What are the implications for software industries - if dollar goes down againest rupee?
a. Lesser profit margins for Indian companies which might result in cost cuts and layoffs;
b. Lesser salary for Indian software employees in India;
c. BSE will crash down to adjust to the currency changes;
d. Indian real estate market will go down as the NRIs will not be able to afford land prices;
e. Indian farmers will be effected because imported agricultural products and food grains will be cheaper;
f. American companies will not be able to afford outsourcing in India and will be forced to bring more H1b employees from India to develop inhouse;

The pro immigration group wants these benefits given to illegals, Anti (any) immigration groups wants no immigration to begin with and want to curtail the current immigration options (H1B and GC for legals etc.) , therefore the compromise is that the pro illegal immigration group lets them cut the current LEGAL immigration channels and anti immigrants let the illegals get all these privileges.

I would further say, what is the difference between you and anti-immigrants in this matter ? You are saying that certain class of people should be kept out of the job market and you have your reasons. Since you are probably US educated, you want those who are non-US educated out of competition. Do not give me the BS reason that those with non-US education are the only ones that fake their resume. As far as faking the resume goes, or bragging goes, its up to the individual. It could be anyone, including Presidents that fake resumes or pad it with embellishments.
The anti-immigrants are saying that they were born here so those who were not born here should be kept of out the job market to reduce competition (and spur wage inflation, which they would call fair wages, but its really wage inflation, the kind that drowned GM and Chrysler).
Would it not behoove you to say that the decision of who should be hired and who shouldn't be hired must be deferred to the employers and not the Government or any other special interest ? As an employer, are they not the most capable party here to make that decision and evaluate their options ? Shouldn't people who create wealth (employers, businesses) have the prerogative to decide who they want to hire to help them create wealth ?
Logiclife - I totally agree with your opinions.
Me and my wife both are professionals - in different fields - none from ivyleague - we decided not to force our kid into something but to allow her to carve out her own career through her interests. We do not aim for sky , but definitely have vision to grow and become successfulaand strive towards it.
From all those people who went to school with me - those ivyleagures are still in jobs - kinda secure jobs and they also secure their jobs - one of our C grade classmate who was average mediocre and just did a BA degree is now a very successful entrepreneur - he is big time into infrastructure development and also sponsers a team in IPL

both seem to be happening at the same time.
The dollar has fallen in comparison to other currencies such as the Pound/Yen/Euro mainly because of some poor economic indicators and worries about another recession etc. At the same time the Indian economy has been growing at breakneck speed causing rupee appreciation. I think both of these things will continue for a while with the Rupee hitting atleast 38 against the dollar.
This is mixed news for the economy I guess. IT outsourcing will hurt since its now more expensive for US customers, but on the other hand things like importing oil are easier for India.
To all those who think India will only do backoffice stuff, I think the next 3-5 years will bring about a sea change in this. Good work has been moved to India, and people are motivated to innovate and do new things. Things have always been more competitive in India (think IIT-JEE exams!!) and it does not take long for some of these folks to realize that they can start their own companies and come out with their own products. The market in India is also maturing to the point where it becomes a substantial consumer of hi-tech products. recent articles about the use of RFID and WiMax point to this. Also, VC interest has always been high in India, all the ingredients for a flood of startups are there, if only IISc in bangalore starts to incubate projects the way Stanford does here in the valley.

So here come the thing. Thats why i asked in my original post is IV just for people who have applied for Green card ? I wanted to know if they could address these issues as well . Regarding inability to work and self esteem , just stay in home for few days and then feel how much you loose. Man , its 21st century and ability to work is basic right.
First of all, IV is a grass roots org. I guess I dont need to tell what grass roots is. That means every one has to be a foot soldier in an effort. I understand that your problem is not the same as majority of the members here have. Thanks to IV on the VB fiasco. IV is not a share holder company that will give you results every Q. If you want accountability, you can find how the money is being spent. I guess some one posted it here very recently. Its publicly available on the net.
Based on my understanding, I can easily tell that IV has more than a full plate and neither funds nor grass roots efforts (there are few people who do the actual work. there are a lot who ask whether IV will do this or that. I guess they think every one else does the work than themselves) to push for H4's ability to work.
Oh wait a sec! While I have no issues with it, there will be a severe backlash on adding new workers. Again this is not my view. what you will get to hear if you go on the hill. Such provisions can be pushed when the economy is better and on a bigger vehicle such as CIR. In these times, just try not to get hit by Grassley & Durbin who will impose restrictions on the SC company you are working for. Imagine that!
While I agree that inability to work is a bad thing, I respectfully disagree that it causes a loss of self esteem. It results in a loss of self esteem when you have the opportunity to work, but you become a couch potato eating cheese curls and watching who wants to be a millionaire. You are encumbered by a stupid visa rule but not physically/legally encumbered to break out of it.
Obviously there are other things that are balancing or overpowering your spouse's inability to work, other wise you would be in Singapore or Canada or UKor where ever spouses are allowed to work.

DISCLAIMER: SPECIFIC TO THE INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM
I am sorry but I disagree with the "best among the best" comment. To equate success in the IIT entrance exam to being the best is a mistake. Success in the entrance exams to those Insititutions comes from focus and hard work. This does not necessarily mean that the people who go there are the best. They ARE definitely the best at preparing for the exam.
Keeping debates on "education standards" aside, from a middle-school student's perspective its definitely not easy to get into a decent higher educational institute in India; what with reservations and the enormous competition . We cannot deny that higher education opportunities are definitely better(though more expensive) in the developed countries.

Dear Sir/Madam:
Thank you for your attention. This is in regards to your online edition article today Republicans Rev up for Economic Debate
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB119154966904949270.html?mod=googlenews_wsj
In your article the writer makes a link between high-skilled workers and illegal aliens by talking about the two groups in the same paragraph, thus conveying to the average reader that the two are connected, and/or that high-skilled workers are illegal yet must be retained
This is misleading in extreme. High-skilled workers are in the U.S. on Legal visas that are sponsored by their employers. These visas are issued to limited numbers of foreigners in areas where no American workers have been found. These legal workers have to go through grueling government labor certifications and extreme waits and red tape just to perform their work, which usually includes U.S. patents and successful start-ups. I urge you to make a correction or an errata to this article which is probably an honest mistake, but which is very unfair, misleading and just plain untrue. Thank you once more.
Sincerely:
